Today, the main directions of human society development are determined by information technologies. Robotics are rapidly developing, artificial intelligence begins to replace people in their professional activities creating opportunities for a significant increase in the comfort of their livelihoods. All these changes are provided by IT-professionals whose training is a very important task.
One of the major tasks problems of mankind today is training of tomorrow’s IT-industry leaders who have the knowledge and skills to generate new information technologies that will ensure the prosperity of future generations. It is impossible to train such specialists only with the classical university curriculums. This requires to motivate them to perform a titanic daily theoretical and practical independent work during all years of studying. A huge set of different interesting practical problems and competitive environment is needed, that is an indicator of the achieved level, every day allows to measure progress in learning and motivate to reach it by providing the opportunity to show their achievements, to feel like a part of a special community.
Such a competitive environment is provided by the ІСРС International Collegiate Programming Contest) that has been held under the auspices of the АСМ (Association for Computer Machinery) for the 41st time.
Participants should be able not only code in a highly professional way or have theoretical knowledge in applied mathematics. They also should complexly use such knowledge and skills in the process of team work (a team of three people is provided with one computer) and in strict time limits (10-15 tasks per 5 hours) to formalize the set tasks and create optimizing or intellectual algorithms for their solution and optimized software implementation of these algorithms.
Creating the conditions for IT-leaders training and forming a community of creative programmers-analysts is the mission of the Olympiad whose participants receive enormous additional theoretical knowledge and practical skills, teamwork experience in extreme conditions, ability to study independently, enhance their creativity, strengthen their thirst to struggle with professional challenges, inspiration for continuous self-improvement, form the qualities that IT-professionals of the near future must satisfy.
